Edith Claire McCreight of Aledo, Illinois danced her way to heaven on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Mercer County Nursing Home in the arms of her daughter Drena. Known affectionately by her family as “Nana”, she was a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, proud great-grandmother and dedicated sister.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12:00 Noon at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home, Activity Department or the Mercer County Animal Shelter.
Edith Claire was born to Clair and Ruth (Vanatta) Monson on July 25, 1918 in Buffalo Prairie, IL. In 1936 she graduated from Aledo High School. In 1941 Edie married Joe McCreight in Buffalo Prairie. Together they had two children, Drena Lynne and Timothy Joe. Edie and Joe Divorced in 1962.
Edie was employed as an executive secretary at Eagle Food Centers in Milan, IL. She retired in 1983 after 22 years. She was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Edie was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #1571, 50 Year Member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 126 in Aledo, and a member of the Rock Island County Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Blackhawk Temple 254 and the Quad Cities Times Plus 60 club. Edie absolutely loved music and had been dancing since she was a child.
Those left to cherish Edie’s memory include her daughter and son-in-law: Drena and Larry Johnson ; a granddaughter, Mandi (Gerrod) Andresen; grandson, Chuck (Jennifer) Johnson and five beautiful great-grandchildren, Timothy, Olivia, and Spencer Andresen and Andrew and Jacob Johnson, all of Aledo; sisters: Uneta Mac Isaac of Gilbert, Arizona; Leah (Walter) Danielson of Rock Island; Beverly Adair of Mesa, Arizona, and Nancy Blomgren of Bridgewater, New Jersey; as well as several nieces and nephews. Edie was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her son, Timothy who was killed in action in the Vietnam War in 1969.
