Navola B. Schmidt

Navola B. Schmidt, 87 of Aledo died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Mercer County Hospital. Services will be Thursday at 2:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM at the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery, Mt. Zion, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mercer County Hospital or Serenity Hospice. Navola was born on February 17, 1920 in Duncan Township, Mercer County, Illinois to John M. & Ruby C. (Marston) Bivens. She married Virgil “Stub” Schmidt on September 13, 1940 in Anchorage, Alaska. After marriage they moved to the Decatur, Mt. Zion area. Navola moved back to Mercer County in 1995. Navola was a member of the Oak Grove Nazarene Church in Decatur and attended the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Aledo. Navola enjoyed time spent with her family, cooking, baking and card club. She was a founding contributor of Aledo Main Street. Navola is survived by 3 daughters and sons-law: Gayle & Rusty Thomas of Owosso, MI; Ozma & Don Karch of Aledo, IL and Marsha “Marti” & Dave Thompson of Mt. Zion, IL; a brother & sister-in-law: Bill & Seville Bivens of Keithsburg, IL; son-in-law:Bud Nation and wife, Nancy of Forsyth, IL; daughter-in-law, Teresa Schmidt Graham and husband Gregg of Fernandina Beach, FL; 12 grandchildren & spouses: Julie & David Hermann; Jenny & John Wise; Jabe & Sarah Thomas; Jon & Colleen Nation; Paul Nation; Heath Karch; Jeana & Scott Ring; Louis Michael Schmidt; Kristi Graham; Chris & Chantelle Thompson; Andy Harper and Brett & Mandy Thompson; 22 great-grandchildren: Jack, Noah & Mary Hermann; Jim & Chris Wise; Alana & Nathan Thomas; Jackie, Sarah & Maria Nation; Alexandra & Owen Ring; Adam, Katie, Aaron & Madeline Thompson; Caley, Mellisa, Elizabeth & Richard Harper and Carra & Levi Thompson and a great-great-granddaughter, Audrey Whitacre. Navola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; a son, James Michael Schmidt; a daughter, Jacklyn Lu Nation; siblings: Allen Bivens, Leona Elliott, Mary Hauck, Dick Bivens, Johnny Bivens, Raymond Bivens & Minverva Coltrane.
