Bertha M. Frye

Bertha Frye, 98 of Aledo, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home. Bertha was born on January 8, 1909 in Viola, Illinois to George P. & Anna (King) Brasmer. She married Kenneth Frye on January 26, 1927 in Viola, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1982. Bertha was employed with both the Rock Island Arsenal as a lady guard and Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley as an occupational therapist. Bertha was a member of the Sherrard Presbyterian Church and upon moving to Aledo, joined the Aledo United Methodist Church. Bertha was an avid gardener and scrabble player. She was also a member of the Sherrard Women’s Club. Bertha is survived by her 4 children and their spouses: Marianne Basala of Sherrard; Deane & Lois Frye of Aledo; Dennis & Jeanie Frye of Milan and Timothy Frye & fiancé, Jeanne Fuhlbrugge of Eldridge, IA; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 12 brothers and sisters; a son-in-law: Marlyn “Doc” Basala; a grandson in infancy, Michael David Basala and a great-great-granddaughter, Erika Maynard. .
