Joan Nesbitt, 86 of Aledo, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:30 AM at College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to College Avenue Presbyterian Church or the Mercer County Nursing Home. Joan Evelyn was born on March 10, 1921 in Wirral, England to Jacob & Gladys (Kitchen) McMullen. She married Hugh R. Nesbitt on September 12, 1944 in Heswall, England. Joan was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother and an avid reader. Joan was a Meteorologist with the Royal Air Force for 5 years. Upon marriage and moving to the United States, she assisted with the Aledo Church Kindergartens; was a reporter for the Quad City Times and worked with the Soil and Water Conservation District. Joan is survived by her husband, Hugh; 6 daughters & their husbands: Barbara J. Nesbitt of Santa Ana California; Pamela A. & Terry Johnson of Galesburg; Sheila & Allan Sedam and Merion & Bill Hofmann all of Aledo; Sylvia Ray Nesbitt of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Mary Lee & Randy Finch of Aledo; 11 Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Taylor of Aledo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
