Mary Elizabeth Lindquist

Mary E. Lindquist, 98 of Aledo, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Mercer County Hospital. Funeral Services are 2:00 PM on Sunday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is prior to services from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Graveside services will be Monday at 10:00 AM at Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Grace Evangelical Free Church or the Leprosy Association. Mary was born on May 28, 1913 in Buffalo Prairie, Township to F. Gustave & Wilhemenia (Trottnow) Zachert. She married Oscar T. Lindquist in 1952. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1985. Mary attended the East Buffalo Elementary School and Aledo and Rock Island Highs Schools prior to graduating from Galesburg Beauty School. She was employed with McCabes Beauty Salon; Bonds Drug Store and Moline Public Hospital in earlier years. Mary and Oscar enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States. She shared her love for the outdoors by gardening, hiking, skating, berry picking, bird-watching and picnics. A favorite yearly family reunion was held at the Reynolds Legion Building on Thanksgiving Day for the past 49 years. Mary was a member of the Grace Evangelical Free Church. Her church family and activities were very important to her as was sharing her wonderful Christian faith. Those left to cherish the love and time spent with Mary include her nieces and nephews: Albert J. & Betty Whitney of Muscatine; Faith & Paul Togami of Wheaton, IL; Dale & Jackie Zachert of Aledo; Shirley & Keith Magalsky of Waterloo, IA: Rachel & Roger Birkhead of Viola; David & Diane Zachert of Taylor Ridge; Steve & Sue Zachert of Hiland, MI and Jeanie & Greg Morgan of Gridley, IL; 22 great-nieces and nephews and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 8 siblings: Selma Scott, William Zachert, Esther Whitney, Bertha Weiss, Herman Zachert, Ernest Zachert and Frederick and Elsie in infancy; a nephew, Raymond Whitney and a great-nephew, Curtis Whitney.
