Violette Bessie Colbert, 94 of Aledo, died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Hamlet Perryton Presbyterian Church. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church or Mercer County Nursing Home Activity Department. Violette Bessie Brown was born on November 6, 1917 in Mercer County to Walter A. & Sadie (Geesey) Brown. She married Russell Colbert on September 7, 1947 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2004. Violette taught in Mercer County, first as a rural teacher for 9 years and then for District 201 for 16 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church, where she was active in earlier years; Home Extension and Retired Teachers. She was a talented cook and enjoyed sewing and artwork, especially painting. Violette is survived by a daughter: Carol Ann Guthrie and friend, Paul Gilliland of Aledo; a son Robert L. Colbert and his wife, Mary of Millersburg; Grandchildren: Samantha Chapman; Kimberly Young; Ryan Colbert and Tracy Kajdacsi; great-grandchildren: Spc. Blaine Chapman; Codey Chapman; Brittney and Amber Kajdacsi; Oakley, Quincy and Sadie Marie Young and Cason Boden-Colbert; a sister-in-law: Myra Brown of Aledo. Violette was preceded in death by her parents; husband;son-in-law: Chuck Guthrie; grandson-in-law: Steven Young and a brother, Fred L. Brown.
