Sue Ann Millikan, formerly of Aledo, passed away of Alzheimer’s on April 4th at the Angel River Nursing Home in Newburgh, IN. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10th from 6-8pm. Her funeral will be held at Speer Funeral Home in Aledo Thursday, at 10am with interment following immediately at the Aledo Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation www.jdrf.org She was born to the late Richard and Elizabeth Banyon in St. Joseph, MI on April 1st, 1924. Her father was a butcher by trade and later a manager with A&P grocery stores. Her mother helped run the family resort in Benton Harbor, MI in the late 1950s into the mid-1960s. Her sister, Jane and brother Richard, preceded her in death. A graduate of Benton Harbor High School, Sue Ann attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. During World War II, she worked as an Industrial Nurse in a factory where war materials were produced. She married Colonel Glen G. Millikan of the former Roosevelt Military Academy on February 3rd, 1957. Sue Ann worked as RMA’s nurse for approximately 12 years where she was known as “Mrs. M” to the cadets and staff. She became a “second mom” to many cadets attending RMA; many being away from home for the first time in their lives. Col. Millikan preceded her in death in December 1988. She was an active volunteer with the Mercer County Women’s Republican Committee, Aledo High School music departments, Trinity Medical Center of Moline and various other local organizations in Aledo and around the Quad Cities. While living in Aledo, she was an active member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church and then became a member of the First Congregational Church of Moline after moving to Rock Island. She enjoyed playing the game of Bridge and loved animals; especially dogs. She is survived by three sons; John Stanford, from a previous marriage living in Michigan, Glen Millikan II, of Evansville, IN and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Millikan, US Army currently stationed in San Antonio, TX. Sue Ann has two grandsons, Brett & Reid Millikan and two granddaughters Maureen Stanford and Morgan Millikan.
