Funeral services for Hugh Nesbitt, 94 of Aledo, will be Monday, June 10th at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Senior Citizen’s Center. Hugh died on Monday, June 3, 2013 at his daughter’s home, with his family at his side. Hugh was born on June 3, 1919 in Greene Township to Arthur & Margaret (Stoner) Nesbitt. He married Joan McMullen on September 12, 1944 in Heswall, England, while stationed overseas with the United States Army/Air Force during World War II. Upon his return home, Hugh received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Monmouth College. His wife, Joan, preceded him in death on May 15, 2007. Hugh dedicated his life to farming in Perryton Township. He received the honor Soil Conservationist of the Year in 1968. Hugh was also a member of the Aledo School Board, serving as President; a member of the Aledo Exchange Club and an active member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served many capacities, including: Elder, Deacon and Treasurer. Hugh and Joan enjoyed their many Bridge Clubs and traveling together, especially on the bus trips with the First Baptist Church. Those left to cherish Hugh’s memory include his 6 daughters & their husbands: Barbara J. Nesbitt of Aledo; Pamela A. & Terry Johnson of Galesburg; Sheila & Allan Sedam and Merion & Bill Hofmann all of Aledo; Sylvia Ray Nesbitt of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Mary Lee & Randy Finch of Aledo; a brother, Stuart Nesbitt of Tulsa, OK; 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a sister in infancy and wife, Joan.
