Mildred J. Gustafson

Funeral services for Mildred J. Gustafson, 85 of Aledo, will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association. Mildred died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, with her family at her side. Mildred Jean was born on March 6, 1928 near Muscatine, Iowa the second twin to Carl & Helen (Miller) Monson. She shared a special bond with her twin, Margaret, her entire life. They were in the 1946 graduating class of Little York High School. Mildred married Evart W. Gustafson on December 18, 1949 in Aledo. He preceded her in death. Mildred was a devoted wife to Evart and homemaker who enjoyed gardening baking and cooking for her family. She loved to bake and baked pies for Wells Café, in Aledo, prior to her marriage. All children were precious to Mildred, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many accomplishments in life, but was very proud of learning to drive at age 70. Those left to cherish Mildred’s memory include her 5 children and spouses: Steve & Paula Gustafson of Rock Island; Kathy & Gil Simmons, Vicki & Dennis Patterson, Ron Gustafson and Tammy & Curt Nelson, all of Aledo; brother, Merle Monson and his wife, Clara of Galesburg and sisters, Betty Hofer and Margaret Morris, her twin, both of Aledo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant sister, Twila.
