M. Verlee Thornton

M. Verlee Thornton, 93 of Millersburg, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, with visitation just prior to services from 9 to 11 AM at the church. Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Speer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Verlee was born on January 14, 1920 in Preemption, Illinois to Marion Lee & Lottie Alice (Elliott) Pearson. She married Glenn Albert Blaser on September 23, 1936 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death. She married Edwin Lee Thornton on March 10, 1956 in Millersburg. He also preceded her in death. Verlee was a dedicated mother and hard working farm daughter and wife. She enjoyed cooking for her family and gardening. Verlee had a special touch working with flowers. She was a member of the Millersburg Presbyterian Church and later College Avenue Presbyterian where she served as Elder and sang in the church Choir. Verlee is survived by her children & spouses: Butch Blaser of Aledo; Michael Blaser of Millersburg; Steve & JoAnn Blaser of Aledo; Donna & Richard Stone of Milan; Alice Jo & J.W. Dellitt of Aledo and Terri Thornton & Rich Zies of Pleasant Prairie, WI; 18 Grandchildren; 36 Great-Grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Verlee was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sons, Dennis Blaser in infancy and Monte Thornton; daughter, Pat Stone; Sister, Evelyn Young and a brother, Donald Pearson.
