Raymond Edward Hemphill

Funeral services for Raymond E. Hemphill, 94 of Aledo, will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Raymond Hemphill Memorial Fund. Ray died on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Aledo Rehab and Healthcare Center. Ray was born on September 11, 1919 in Hale, Missouri to John Leroy “Roy” & Nellie Mae (Horton) Hemphill. He joined the United States Army and served in the 88th Infantry. Ray and Rosemary Marie Duncan were united in marriage on December 17, 1949 in rural Alexis. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2000. Ray and Rosemary farmed their entire married life in the Suez Township area. He was also a master carpenter and enjoyed gardening. Ray loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his face would light up whenever they would visit. Those left to cherish Ray’s memory include his son, Roger Hemphill of Aledo; a daughter, Barbara Carey and husband, David of Wentzville, MO; a sister-in-law, Ida Duncan of Aledo and 4 grandchildren and their families: Leith & Angela Carey and daughter, Lavina; Kyle Hemphill and children, Mya and Max; Troy & Anna Hemphill and children, Ava and Emery and Eric & Abby Hemphill and children, Mason and Layne. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter-in-law, Janet Hemphill; Sister, Eileen Vance and brothers: John, James W. & Fred Hemphill.
