Richard K. Gibbs

Funeral Services for Richard K. Gibbs, 73, of New Boston are Saturday at 11:00 AM at The New Boston United Methodist Church. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8 pm at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo with Masonic Services at 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the New Boston United Methodist Church. Richard died on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Riverpark Healthcare Center, Rock Island, Illinois. Richard was born on January 18, 1932 in New Boston Township to Alfred and Jenny (Straw) Gibbs. He married Esther Tharp on June 27, 1951 at the New Boston United Methodist Church. Richard was a member of the New Boston United Methodist Church and the New Boston Masonic Lodge #59. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting ducks and fishing. Richard was retired from Langman Construction and had also been a commercial fisherman in earlier years. Richard is survived by his wife, Esther; a son and daughter-in-law: Mel & Dianne Gibbs of Taylor Ridge; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Diana & Brian Whitehall of Okeechobee, FL and Brenda & Bill Larkins of Orion; a sister, Lois and Chris Moyer of Texas; and 6 grandchildren: Kevin Gibbs of Coal Valley; Ryan Gibbs of Taylor Ridge; Michelle Whitehall and Donovan Whitehall, of Chicago and Billy Larkins and Brittany Larkins of Orion. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Mabel Gibbs; a sister, Marion Long and a grandson, Robbi Gibbs.
