Shirley Reiser

Funeral services for Shirley M. Reiser, 93 of Aledo, are Thursday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Aledo Band Shell or the Mercer County High School Pom Squad. Shirley died on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Shirley Mae Breedlove was born on March 5, 1921 to Harry L & Frances Violet (Rigg) Breedlove. She was a 1939 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1943 graduate of Knox College. Shirley married Millard Joe Reiser on April 23, 1944 at the First Baptist Church, Galesburg. From this union, a daughter, Gaye Joette was born. Joe preceded her in death on November 13, 1980 and Gaye preceded her in death on July 12, 2007. Shirley and Joe moved to Aledo in August of 1955 when they purchased the former Kopp Funeral Home and founded the Reiser Funeral Home, which they operated until Joe’s death in 1980. Shirley loved dancing, opening her own studio in Galesburg at age 16. She had been teaching dance since age 14. She also enjoyed her porcelain doll collection and was a member of the Midwest Doll Club. She was also a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #126, Aledo. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Aledo. Shirley is survived by a great niece Rebecca (Richard) Fairchild of Orangeburg, SC and many friends, including Cindy & Bill Lenger of Coal Valley and Mike & Kathy Sponsler of Aledo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and brother, Forrest Breedlove.
