C. Lane Dixon

Funeral services for C. Lane Dixon, 94 of Aledo, will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 8th at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is from 9 till 11, prior to services. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lane Dixon Memorial Fund. Lane died on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Unity Point Health, Rock Island. Lane was born on October 4, 1920 in Mercer County, Illinois to Clarence & Clora (Wilson) Dixon. He married Mary Etta Meeks on June 22, 1946 in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2009. Lane was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. He dedicated his life to farming, mostly in the Burgess area. After retirement he enjoyed helping at the Seed House (Farmer’s Best Seeds). Lane enjoyed gardening, reading and his daily walks. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Burgess for over 50 years. Those left to cherish Lane’s memory include his daughters: Elane (Bill) Firestone of Midwest City, OK and Kathy Bigham of Aledo, IL; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild and a sister, Dorothy Hunter of Geneseo He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law, Jeffrey Bigham and a sister, Maxine Hagey.
