Daisy D. Smet

Daisy Darlene Smet, 78 of Viola, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at her home. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Matherville. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 7 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, where a rosary will be held at 3:30 PM. Memorials honoring Daisy may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or St. Jude's. Daisy Darlene was born on November 9, 1936 in Moline, Illinois to William Lawrence & Veronica (Krulick) Haskins. She married John Smet on May 16, 1953 in Moline. Daisy was a devoted homemaker and farmwife. She enjoyed cooking and baking and passed her talent onto her children. Daisy enjoyed camping with John and her family and attending Viola Seniors and Prime Timers with the Mercer County Farm Bureau. Those left to cherish Daisy ' s memory include her husband, John; 6 children and spouses: John M. & Melanie Smet of Eureka; Darlene E. and Jeff Crummy of Viola; Christopher L. Smet of Aledo & companion, Jackie Lafferty of Alpha; Shelley A. & Greg Roth of Moline; Steven A. & Kelly Smet of Peoria and Patricia L. & Andy Kongkousonh of Viola; 3 siblings and spouses: Danny & Linda McDaniel and Bill & Cindy McDaniel all of Colona, IL and Donna Bennett and companion, Rowdy Yates of Seattle, WA; 15 grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren and two lovingly expected. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Rose, Roberta and Thomas.
