Dorothy Lloyd

Funeral Services for Dorothy Lloyd, 80 of Illinois City will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 3 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Dorothy died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa. Dorothy Eileen Ripley was born on February 17, 1929 in Aledo, Illinois to Dow & Della (Beeding) Ripley. She married Lowell Lloyd on September 2, 1949 at the First Baptist Church, Aledo, Illinois. Dorothy was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. “Mom” as Dorothy was called, loved taking care of everyone, especially cooking for everyone. She was generous with her time and enjoyed helping others. Dorothy attended Western Illinois University, obtaining her teachers certificate. She taught prior to her marriage. In later years she was the study hall monitor at Rockridge High School. She was also an administrative assistant at the Mercer County Hospital. Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her husband, Lowell; children and spouses: Warren & Marcia Lloyd of Reynolds; Melanie & Ted Peck of Galena, MO and Jay & Julie Lloyd of Illinois City and five grandchildren: Justin Lloyd; Kelly Howell; Carri Jones; Tanner Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Lyle and Henry Clay Ripley and 2 sisters, Alta Brown and Ruth Frye.
