September 9, 1921 — February 15, 2017

Lucille Marquis, 95 of Aledo, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church.  Private family burial was held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorials in Lucy’s memory may be left to the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, The VFW Post #1571 Auxiliary or Oak Ridge Cemetery. Lucy was born on September 9, 1921 in Eliza Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Junis and Nola (Hampton) Liebig. After she graduated from Joy High School, she worked in Aledo, where she met Maynard Marquis. They were married on March 16, 1945. They had a son and daughter and lived on the family farm in Millersburg. She retired from the Mercer County Nursing Home as a Nurses Aide. Maynard died in 1999, and Lucy moved back to Aledo in 2006. Lucy was a lifetime member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Mercer County VFW Post #1571 Auxiliary. She loved her family, her home and her gardens. She lived a simple life, preferring to stay in the background, but she knew how to get things done. She took time to enjoy the song of the house wrens, the beauty of a sunset and the wonder of the flowers blooming in her garden and passed that on to her family. Lucy is survived and will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nancy Marquis of St. Charles, MO; daughter, Jan Marquis and partner, Bert Przybylski of Grand Junction, CO; granddaughters: Hollie (Tom) Hicks and Teresa (Andrew) Jarrick; three great-grandchildren: Connor, Ethan and Emma, with another boy on the way. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, sisters: Ruth, Mildred, Vera, Evelyn and Lila and brother, Martin preceded her in death. The family would like to thank Genesis Senior Living for the wonderful care given to Lucy during her time there.
