Funeral Services for Robert “Bob” Brokaw, 83 of Aledo will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, Viola with Lay Pastor, Sheila Sheer officiating. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, Viola. Bob died on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Robert Edwin was born on March 6, 1923 in Stronghurst, Illinois to A. L. & Anna (Weir) Brokaw. He married Helen Lee Peterson on December 9, 1950 in Aledo, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2005. Bob farmed his entire life in Greene Township, Mercer County, Illinois. He was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. In early years he was a member of Rural Youth, and met Helen Lee during that time. He enjoyed the Mercer County Church Softball League; Bowling; Card Club; Duck Hunting and fishing trips with the family to Minnesota. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. Bob was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, Viola, where he had been Trustee, Elder and Deacon. Bob is survived by his children and their spouses: Sharon & Bill Zigmont of Stockton, IL; Debby & Jeff Brandon of Dalton City, IL; Mark Brokaw and partner, Andrew Farber of New York City; Bradley & Susan Brokaw and Christina & Brett Nelson, all of Aledo; Brothers: Harold Brokaw of South Carolina and Richard Brokaw and his wife, Lois of Osco, IL; a sister-in-law, Dona Brokaw of Aledo and a brother-in-law and his wife, John Service and Florence of Moline; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Lee; a sister, Evelyn Service; 2 brothers and their spouses, Weir & Pearl Brokaw and Allan & Mildred Brokaw and a sister-in-law, Barb Brokaw.
