Merle M. Waugh

Merle Waugh, 98 of Aledo, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Saturday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home Scholarship Fund or Mercer County 4-H. Merle was born on October 20, 1911 in Rozetta Township, Henderson, County, Illinois to Orville K. & Lulu F. (Moore) Waugh. He married Alice Harrison on August 26, 1944. She preceded him in death in 1965. He married Mildred Hussong in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 1999. Merle dedicated his life to farming and even after retiring, he helped his step-son farm. He also raised registered Shetland Ponies, and was often called to judge them at county fairs. He was very active in the 4-H community, helping start the Wranglers 4-H club for Mercer County. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs Fan. Merle loved to visit with people and could be counted on to make them laugh. He loved having fun. Merle also served on the ASC Board; was a field surveyor and was a crop adjuster for Country Financial. Merle is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: John & Barb Waugh of Aledo; a step-son and his wife, DeWayne & Joyce Hussong of Rock Falls; grandchildren: Bridget & Derek Tresemer of Roscoe and Darin & Dawn Waugh of Studio City, CA and 2 great-granddaughters: Brianna & Jordan Tresemer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; wife, Mildred; 6 brothers: Cecil, Bill, Wade, Lorne, Kenny & Ivan and 3 sisters: Gertrude, Nellie & Mildred.
