Jack Baker, 86 of Aledo, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at his home. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County FFA Chapter; Community Projects for Mercer County or Serenity Hospice. Jack was born on July 22, 1923 in Rock Island County, Illinois to Hale & Lillie (Carlson) Baker. He married Dorothy Paulsen on May 29, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 4, 1994. Jack dedicated his life to farming. He always enjoyed improving the land, especially running the bulldozer. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and milling parts for anyone who would ask. Jack and Dorothy had been members of the Rustlers Club through Perryton Church. Those left to cherish Jack’s memory include: his son and daughter-in-law: Gary & Judy Baker of Aledo; 3 Grandsons: Aaron Baker & fiancé, Lesley Sheriff of Aledo; Nate & Jill Baker of Downers Grove and Josh Baker & fiancé JoLynn Quick of Aledo; great-grandchildren: Michaela, MacKenzie, Jackson & Benjamin Baker; Cade Quick; Donny Sheriff and Trevis Hale Baker and a sister, Arlene Gidel of Edgington. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Bill in 1999 and a brother, Lloyd Baker.
