Funeral Services for David Nevling, 68 of Milan, will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mercer County VFW Post #1571. Private burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Great River Hospice, Burlington or Relay for Life. Dave went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Great River Hospice, Burlington. Dave was born on May 27, 1942 in Sheboygan, Wis. to Ralph G. and Winifred A.(Porter) Nevling. He was previously married to the former Mary Morrell, and the late Charlene Gralak. Dave was a dedicated member of the Milan Christian Church. He shared his love of God with his family and wanted them to follow Jesus in all parts of their lives. Dave had a strong connection and love for his family and friends. He loved nature, especially spending time on the beach in the brilliant sunshine. Dave retired from John Deere Plow and Planter Works after 30 years of dedicated service. He also helped train tri-athletes for RIFAC, including a champion. He enjoyed running, biking, crosswords and was a great Green Bay Packers Fan. He also helped establish a benefit run for the Travis Hearn Foundation. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Those left to cherish Dave’s memory include his children and their spouses: Ken & Karen Nelving of Ramah, CO; Roger & Robin Nevling of Burlington, IA; Linda & Tony Elliott of Eliza, IL; Susan & Dirk Murphy of Calhan, CO and Sandra & Jeremy Wilder of Cañon City, CO; a sister and her husband: Linda & Robert Harrison of Silver Spring, MD; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren lovingly expected and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
