July 15, 1936 — February 24, 2018

Betty J. Munson, 81 of New Boston, died February 24, 2018 at home after a long illness. Services will be Wednesday, at 12:00 Noon at the New Boston United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Betty Munson memorial fund. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements. Betty was born July 15, 1936, in Moline, the daughter of Henry & Frances Gosline DeVooght. Henry and Frances Divorced. Frances then married Paul B. Nitzel, Sr. and Betty became Paul’s daughter in virtually every way. Betty was a homemaker although she held several jobs in the quad Cities area in earlier years. She first married William “Bill” Lutrell. They divorced. Betty Married James “Jim” Munson on April 3, 1970 in Milan, IL. Betty enjoyed collectibles and earned the name, “Betty Find a Bargain”. She enjoyed crafts, especially sewing and crocheting. Her family was extremely important to her and she enjoyed nothing better than a big family reunion. Betty is survived by her husband, Jim; children: Bill Lutrell of New Boston; James Russell & Julie Munson, Jr of Conway, AR; Cindy Moulds & Dennis Long of New Boston; Nichole “Niki” Scull of New Boston; Donna & Jerry Badgett of Creston, IA; Karen & Terry Nichols of Earlham, IA and Tina & Tim Richardson of Spokane, WA; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and one lovingly expected; a sister, Marsha Milburn of East Moline and brothers, Paul Nitzel Jr. of East Moline and Mike Nitzel of Coal Valley. Also surviving are numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lori Strom-Szymarek and a granddaughter.
