Curtis L. Downing

Curtis L. Downing, 77 of Aledo, died Monday, January 15, 2017 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Memorial services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Curt was born on December 17, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa to Robert B. & Irene (Kistler) Downing. He married Sandra Short on January 6, 1962 at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo.

Curt owned and operated the C & J Garage in Aledo for many years, even helping friends with mechanical issues after retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed canning his vegetables and shared them with friends and family. Curt also enjoyed woodworking and was a known fixer upper. Curt volunteered with the Aledo Fire Department.

Curt is survived by his wife, Sandra; Son and daughter-in-law: Tim & Sherri Downing of Columbia, SC; Siblings and spouses: Connie & Jerry Mattson and Dennis & Norma Downing, all of Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
