Darlene Mildred Taylor

November 20, 1928 — October 27, 2018

Darlene M. Taylor, 89 of Aledo, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at her home. Funeral services are Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family or Antioch Baptist Church.

Darlene Mildred was born on November 20, 1928 in Muscatine, Iowa to George & Mildred (Kane) Fowler. She married Lowell S. Taylor on August 8,
1945 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Edgington, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2018.

Darlene worked alongside Lowell on the family farm, and also had her own Beauty Salon in her home. Darlene loved dancing, camping and traveling. She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter and a volunteer with the Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary. Upon retirement

Darlene and Lowell spent their winters in Southern Texas, where they greatly enjoyed their status as “Winter Texans”. The couple was able to have their 5 grandchildren join them on many traveling and camping adventures. They spent much of their retirement traveling from dance venue to dance venue, vowing that they would never miss a dance featuring their favorite bands. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory are a daughter Carolyn Williams of Aledo; Grandchildren: Piper (Toby) Smith of East Peoria, IL; Cynthia Handley of Davenport, IA; Stuart (Cassie) Handley of Eldridge, IA; Erika Taylor of San Diego, CA; and Zachary (Jennifer) Taylor of Eliza, IL. Great-grandchildren: Sebastian Weig, Taylor Weig, Tanner Weig, Devynn Smith, Nathan Taylor, Emma Handley, Mitchell Taylor, Brendan Handley, Cora Handley and Natalie Taylor as well as great-great grandchildren Chloe Spiker, Brylee Weig and Ethan Minteer; brother: George Lewis Fowler of Illinois City. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Albert Leroy Fowler as well as one son, Victor.
