Doris was born on February 8, 1922, in Ong, Nebraska to Leonard & Lillian (Hanson) Carlson. Doris was very proud of the fact that she was 100% Swedish! After graduating from Ong High School, she attended Hastings College and later worked in Lincoln, Nebraska as a secretary. During World War II she was a secretary for the Navy in Los Angeles. It was there she met her husband, John C. Seaton, Jr, who was an F.B.I. agent. After their marriage on Dec. 16, 1945, and the end of the war, the couple moved to Iowa City where John finished Law School. In 1947, they moved to Seaton, where she was secretary for his law practice.

Doris was a dedicated member of the Center Presbyterian Church; past member of PEO, Chapter AG of Keithsburg; past Cub Scout leader and very civic minded and willing to add a helping hand when needed in her community. She was a Legacy Partner of the Society of Former Agents of the F.B.I. where she and John made countless longtime friends through the annual conventions they attended each year. These relationships lasted for decades. Doris enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends by writing letters and sending cards. She enjoyed canning, cooking, baking, and especially loved to make and enjoyed homemade ice cream. Doris and John enjoyed many years of weekend boating on the Mississippi River with family and friends. After John’s death in 2000, Doris moved to Moline in 2005 and then to The Fountains in Bettendorf in 2013.

Cherishing Doris’ memory include her daughters and son’s in-law: Terry & Chuck Petit of Thousand Oaks, CA; Barbara “B.J.” & Mike Downes of Bettendorf; a sister, Alice Sanford of Woodinville, WA; 6 Grandchildren & 11 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, William Seaton; grandson, John C. Seaton, III; and a sister, Marian Scott.
