Dorothy M Smith

Dorothy M. Smith, 97 of rural Aledo, died Sunday at her home. Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and private burial will be in the Alexis Cemetery. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Dorothy Maxine was born on May 27, 1924 in Henderson County, Illinois to George & Rebecca (Mesecher) Lauver. She married Ira B. Smith of March 1, 1946 in Raritan, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2008.

Dorothy was a homemaker and helped Ira on the family farm in Suez Township. She was a talented pianist who shared her gift first at the Burgess United Presbyterian Church and later the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church. She loved her church families and was active in Sunday School, Women’s Association, and other church activities. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed reading and sewing.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Karen Ross & husband, Joe of Davenport; Brice Smith of Aledo; 3 grandchildren and spouses: Kecia & Jay Appleby; Jason & Brenda Ross and Phil & Connie Chrisman; great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Kelcie, Kendalyn, Sam, Asher, Ross, Madison and Paige; sisters: Betty Weishaar of Springfield, IL; Jean Murphy of Peoria and Evelyn Cain of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and 2 sisters: Helen Atkinson and Marian Lauver.
