Evelyn M. Yerkey

Evelyn M. Yerkey, 90 of Aledo, died Monday, January 29, 2018, at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Aledo United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 9 to 11 AM, prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Aledo United Methodist Church. Speer Funeral Home is assisting the family. Evelyn Maxine was born on June 27, 1927 near Alexis, Illinois to Lawrence & Gertrude (Edwards) Line. She married James Griffith on February 17, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1955. Evelyn married Wendell Yerkey on June 5, 1959 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2007. Evelyn worked for The National Bank of Aledo and was also an assistant to Attorneys Martin Conway and Dwight Shoemaker. She also was an assistant to States Attorney, Glen Appleton and retired from the Circuit Clerk Office. Evelyn was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church, where she attended Women’s Circle. Evelyn enjoyed socializing, sewing and quilting. She loved to serve dinner to family and friends and then enjoy a game of cards. Evelyn cherished the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Carol & Judd McAtee of Viola; Siblings: John Line of Seaton and Barbara (Ward) Butcher of Alexis; Grandchildren: Jim & Amanda McAtee; Jon & Amy McAtee; Angie & John DeBlock and Josh McAtee and 11 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands and a son, Larry Griffith.
