Gary D. Greer

Funeral services for Gary D. Greer, 86, of Seaton, Illinois, will be 11:00 AM on Friday, May 13th at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation two hours prior to services. Burial will be in the Candor Cemetery, Seaton. Memorials may be made to the Seaton Fire Protection District. Gary died on May 5, 2022, in Columbus, Georgia. The service will be livestreamed on the Speer Funeral Home Facebook page. 

Gary Dwight Greer was born on May 5, 1936, in Monmouth, Illinois to A.D. “Squire” & Cora Lois (Porter) Greer. He attended Knox College, and graduated from Northern Illinois University. He was a member of the United States National Guard. Gary and Dixie Philbrick were married on March 26, 1961, in DeKalb, Illinois.

Gary was a dedicated member of the Seaton community, serving as president of The State Bank of Seaton, Seaton Village President, and treasurer for Abington Township, the Seaton Fire Protection District, and Center Presbyterian Church, of which he was a lifelong member. He also worked as a consultant for the Keithsburg/Abington/Ohio Grove multi-township. Gary was a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Oakview County Club, where he served as board secretary. Through the years he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening, but mostly he loved spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dixie; children & spouses: Lisa & Dennis Eisele of Harvard, IL; Alan & Kara-Lynn Greer of Murfreesboro, TN; Rodney & Christina Greer of Auburn, AL; Grandchildren: Alex and Sam Eisele, Joshua (Ana) Greer, Savannah (Tyler) Rudd, Parker, Garrett, Lindsay, & Morgan Greer, Rory Greer, Emma (Andrew) Stevenson, and Grace Greer; a great-grandchild, Tony Greer, and two lovingly expected; a sister-in-law, Jean Greer of Schaumburg, IL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Al Greer.
