George Wesley Ewing was born on April 26, 1944, in Monmouth, Illinois, to J. Henry and Virginia (Walters) Ewing. He grew up with his siblings on a family farm where he enjoyed horses, farmwork, and being active. He was a 1962 graduate of Aledo High School, where he made many memories with friends. He especially loved playing basketball and football. During his sophomore basketball season, George was introduced to Susan Acord, and the two began a lifelong love that would span the next sixty-four years. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1965. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2024.

That love of farming, sports and family would remain with him the rest of his life alongside his unwavering faith in the Lord. He and Susan raised their family on the farm where he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Together they were youth leaders and taught Sunday school for many years. George was a farmer through and through, holding on just long enough to oversee one final harvest. He continued to drive around the farm even just a week prior to his passing.

George was fiercely competitive about all things sports: playing sports, coaching sports and watching sports. He loved to strategize and spent hours dissecting each moment. In later years, he had just as much enthusiasm watching his grandkids playing as when he played himself. He spent many hours of his life playing golf, basketball, football, softball and many card games, especially bridge.

Even more than farming and sports, though, George was loyal to his family. He was passionate about any activity that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. George and Susan took every opportunity to spend time with their family. In later years, they could be found daily driving around checking in on each family member. George was the husband, dad, and grandpa who was always there to support his family in each of their small and large endeavors.

George’s legacy will be carried on by his children and their spouses: Matt & Jeni Ewing of Seaton; Britt & Brian Hagens of Aledo; Grandchildren: Jake & Ashley Ewing; Isabel & Keegan Bryant and Dani & Grant Ganpat; Great-grandchildren: Georgia, Zachary and Jameson; Siblings: Ivan & Sue Ewing of Seaton, IL; Joyce Olson of Appleton, WI and sister-in-law, Pam Bird of Auburn, IL. George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan; brothers-in-law, Roy Olson and Bill Bird and sister-in-law, Abbie Acord.
