Glen E. Bennett, 85 of Aledo, died Friday, May 10, 2024, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital, Peoria. IL. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 12:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is prior to services beginning at 9 AM. Private burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Aledo Fire Department or the Mercer County VFW.

Glen was born on November 21, 1938, in Kearney, NE to Earl L. & Hazel I. (Sawin) Bennett. He was a 1956 graduate of Aledo High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He married Dorothy Cooper in 1965 in Aledo, Illinois.

Glen was the proud owner of the store with the orange floor, Aledo Auto & Farm Supply. He advocated for the small town and helped by volunteering for the Aledo Fire Department for 24 years, was an Aledo Fire Department Trustee, was Past President of both the Aledo Chamber of Commerce and the Aledo Exchange Club and served on the Aledo School Board. Glen was also a member of the Knucklebusters Car Club with his Black Cherry 1957 Chevy Cameo Pick Up.  He was the biggest cheerleader for the Aledo Rhubarb Fest and was the resident Garbologist who helped keep the park clean. Having over 100 barrels he would take them to any family, civic organization or town who needed them for an event.  Glen was proud his hometown was Aledo, and he would share his enthusiasm with everyone.

Glen is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Mike (Angie) Bennett of Aledo and Wayne (Wanda Evans) of Johnsburg, IL; Grandchildren: Courtney & Matt Carrier, Taylor & Nick Erickson, and Alexa, Traci & Matthew Bennett; a great-grandson, Maverick Carrier and one lovingly expected; a sister-in-law, Judi Worth and 8 nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Howard Bennett and his in-laws, Rayburn & Lola Cooper.
