Juanita J. Sims, 86, of New Windsor, passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2018 surrounded by her family’s love. She was born May 14, 1931 in Keithsburg, IL to Nels & Josephine (Harrison) Fredrickson. Juanita attended the one-room schools of Maple Grove and Walnut Grove, graduating from Seaton High School. She attended Western Illinois University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. Juanita married Everett E. Sims on June 7, 1953 at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, IL. She taught in the Keithsburg schools and Peoria District 150, and retired from Chillicothe IVC District 321. Juanita was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pi Kappa Sigma social sorority and Pi Lambda Theta honorary sorority. The greatest joys of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and teaching. She truly believed in all her students and did everything in her power to help them reach their highest potential. Juanita is survived by her husband, Everett; sons, Kent Sims of Bolingbrook, IL and Kirk (Sharon) Sims of New Windsor, IL; granddaughter, Sarah Herrera of Eldridge, IA: grandson, Cole Sims (Ashleigh Ryan) of New Windsor, IL; great-granddaughters, Lucia Herrera of Eldridge, IA and Annistyn and Isabelle Sims of New Windsor, IL; sister, Carol K. Teubel of Lisbon, IA and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet V. Smith of Brimfield, IL and a special cousin, La June R. Ricketts of Little York, IL. There will be no formal services at this time. Private family burial will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
