Leonard H. McCaw

Leonard H. McCaw, 99 of Moline, formerly of New Boston, IL, died Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Hope Creek Nursing Rehab & Care Center, East Moline, Illinois, after a brief stay. Per Leonard’s wishes, cremation was accorded and there will be no services, and burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Leonard Harry McCaw was born on April 6, 1927, in Rock Island, Illinois to Cecil R. & Charlotte (Kuschmann) McCaw. He was a 1945 graduate of Aledo High School. After attending Monmouth College, he enlisted in the US Navy and transferred to Naval Reserve, then into the Merchant Marine Academy. During the Korean war, Leonard served in the US Army, stationed in Chicago.

Leonard and his parents started McCaw Electric in New Boston, Illinois, later moving the business to Aledo, being there for over 40 years. Leonard married Shirley Graff Green in 1959, making their home in New Boston. Together they owned and operated McCaw Electric and Furniture until their retirement in 1988.

Leonard and Shirley spent their summers at Lake of The Woods in Canada, where they had built a home in 1965. Winters were spent in Scottsdale, Arizona until 2014. Leonard enjoyed his lodge affiliation with the New Boston Masonic Lodge #59, the Moline Consistory and the Shriners of Peoria, Illinois. He was an accomplished private pilot and was a broker for real estate.

Leonard enjoyed many warm friendships with his neighbors in Moline. Family that survives include his cousins, Steve Struble, Marcia Lloyd, Reneé Lloyd, Rob Robbins and Ron Robbins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley on January 19, 2021, and his cousins, Jean Struble and Joyce Robbins.
