Lowell "George" Lloyd

Funeral services for Lowell “George” Lloyd, 92 of Illinois City, will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Edgington Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home, where Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edgington Cemetery or the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge. Lowell died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Premier Estates, Muscatine. Lowell Jasper Lloyd was born on December 21, 1924 in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois to Jasper & Ida (Forsyth) Lloyd. He married Dorothy Ripley on September 2, 1949 at the Aledo First Baptist Church. Lowell enjoyed farming, until his retirement in 1977, when he began his next career as head of Maintenance for the Rockridge School District. He was a jack of all trades, bust was especially talented in woodworking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing in his spare time. He was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge and of the NRA. Lowell is survived by 3 children and spouses: Warren & Marcia Lloyd of Reynolds; Melanie & Ted Peck of Galena, MO and Jay & Julie Lloyd of Illinois City; 5 grandchildren and spouses: Justin Lloyd, Kelly & Mike Howell, Carri & Aaron Jones, Tanner Lloyd and Jordan Elizabeth Lloyd; 4 great-grandchildren: Eliza, Anna & Clara Howell and Everly Jones; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara & Ted Granquist of Rochester, MN and Carolyn & Larry Makoben of Bettendorf. Also surviving are many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters: Eva Lloyd and Suzanne Simpson; and brothers: Marvin, John, Harold, Clair, Donald and Louis Lloyd.
