Margaret “Margie” A. Olson, 86, died Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Mercer Manor Memory Care, Aledo. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo with visitation two hours prior to services beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) or to the Olson Family for a college fund for Margie’s great-grandchildren.
Margaret Ann was born on August 10, 1939 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Aloysius & Evelyn (Orr) Kraemer. She previously married Maston Sillin in 1962, having two daughters from this union. Margie married Dean Olson on March 31, 1990 at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Aledo, Illinois.
Margie served as secretary for the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department through three sheriffs, Thirtyacre, Glancy, and Thompson. She had previously worked for Contel and the State Attorney’s Office. Margie was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Chapter H PEO, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and enjoyed attending Via de Cristo. Living on the farm with Dean allowed Margie to spend her days outdoors and flower gardening. Margie also taught deep water aerobics at the Mercer County YMCA and enjoyed the enhanced fitness classes there.
Margie is survived by her husband Dean; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine & Jack Palmer and Marcia & Gary Garrett; grandchildren Matthew & Kaylyn Palmer, Jillian Palmer, Ryan & Hannah Garrett, Bradley Garrett, Jeffrey Garrett; great-grandchildren Evelyn and Lucas Palmer, and Aleah and Sophia Garrett; and sisters and brother-in-law Kathryn Crombie, and Aldene and Robert Bond. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Gordon Crombie.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at the Mercer Manor Memory Care unit as well as the staff at Unity Point Hospice, especially Liz and Jessica.
