Marjorie I. Staker, 87 of Aledo, died, Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Mercer Manor, Aledo. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 5:30 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Visitation is prior to services from 3 to 5 PM at the church. Private burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie Irene was born on June 5, 1937, in Aledo, Illinois to Lawrence R. & Edith M. (Steele) Skinner. She married Billy C. Staker on October 5, 1958, at the Aledo United Methodist Church. He preceded Marjorie in death on August 26, 2022.

Marjorie dedicated her life to helping on the family farm in Ohio Grove Township and raising her family. She loved cooking, gardening and baking for them and was always willing to try out a new recipe. Marjorie’s potato salad was a family favorite. In her spare time, she enjoyed birdwatching, caring for wounded animals and shared her talents with quilting, sewing, crocheting, playing piano, and her indoor gardening with her cacti.

Marjorie was active in her church community, helping in the kitchen, Sunday school, church choir and the “kitchen band”. She was also active in Home Extension and Mercer County Farm Bureau. She served on the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee as Co-Chair for many years and also helped develop Ace Camp and programs for Ag in the Classroom. Marjorie and Bill enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to the Netherlands where they could visit their foreign exchange student, Heleen.

Those left to cherish Marjorie’s memory include her children and spouses: Mike Staker; Steve & Penny Staker and Kathy & Bryan Murdock, all of Aledo; grandchildren: Ashley Murdock, Stephanie & AJ Roloff, Amanda & Sam Bennett, Colby & Catherine Staker, Joe & Holly Staker, Colin & Lindsay Murdock, Cassidy & Michael Price and Cayley Staker & fiancé, Matthew; great-grandchildren: Mollie, Haylee, Addyson, Shaelyn, Cooper, Finan, Noel, Andie, Jase, Hadley, Chloe, Cecelia, Mikey, Cayden & Doris; and her Amsterdam daughter and Family: Heleen, Onno, Toon & Hein Van Geldren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother and sister-n-law, David & Betty Skinner.
