Richard Lloyd Carlson

Richard L. Carlson, 85 of Aledo, died September 14, 2022, at Mercer Manor, with his family at his side. Private family services will be held. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family and condolences may be left at speerfuneralhome.com.

Richard Lloyd Carlson was born on August 12, 1937, in Moline, Illinois to Lloyd & Dorothy (Mercer) Carlson. After high school, Dick served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. He married Barbara Olson on May 8, 1959, in Moline, Illinois.

Dick retired from the Teamster Union in 1995 after working with Service & Advance Transportation for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed helping the Aledo Park District with maintenance and building different items in need. He loved working with wood, especially carving and enjoyed volunteering for Rhubarb Fest where he helped in the tasting tent for many years. Dick and Barbara enjoyed their 25 winters in Harlingen, Texas, where Dick enjoyed flying specialty kites.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara; 3 children and spouses: Tom & Libby Carlson, Kris & Brad Welch, Dave Carlson; grandchildren: Shauna & Misty Darr, Hillary Welch, Colton & Breanna Welch, Emily Carlson, Erik & Vanessa Carlson, Elizabeth Ann & Philip Edwards; a great-granddaughter, Davie Jo and a sister, Cheryl Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
