Roger E. Hemphill, 74 of Aledo, died unexpectedly at his home on April 2, 2026. Funeral services will be Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Aledo, Illinois. Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hemphill family.
Roger Edward Hemphill was born on July 22, 1951, in Aledo, Illinois to Raymond Edward & Rosemary Marie (Duncan) Hemphill. Roger graduated from Aledo High School in 1969. He married Janet Christy in 1984. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Roger was a man that like to stay busy and worked with his hands. He enjoyed farming with his father and being an electrician. He also worked at the Alpha FS plant in the Feed Mill and for Cannon Bronze, before going to work for General Machine and Grind as their maintenance electrician, just retiring not too long ago. Even after retirement he could be found working in the shed and helping his kids with projects.
In his spare time, Roger cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and visits to his sister’s home in Missouri. He was recently reconnecting with family as he worked on genealogy.
Roger is survived by his children and spouses: Kyle Hemphill; Troy & Anna Hemphill; Eric & Abby Hemphill; grandchildren: Mya, Max, Ava, Emery, Mason, Layne and Daxton; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara & David Carey; many nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren’s mothers, Megan and Mariana. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Janet.
