Reynolds

Rosemary W. (Wood) Reid passed away at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on December 14th, 2023.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, December 18th at Speer Funeral home, Aledo, IL.  Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 19th at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Aledo, IL.  Pastor Seth Bowker will officiate.  Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Aledo and the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Rosemary was born on February 10th, 1930, at her home farm in Reynolds, Illinois to Thal Austin Wood and Frances Anna (Sproston) Wood.  She married Edward Thomas Reid on August 13th, 1950, at the First Baptist Church of Aledo.  They had four children.

Born and raised on her grandparent’s farm, Rosie was always rooted in her family's history.  She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1948 then went on to study at bible colleges in South Carolina and Minnesota.  She returned home and became a teacher in Preemption.  After her husband, Ed, started a transmission repair business in Moline, IL, Rosie then transitioned to helping him run the business and raise her children.  Once the kids got into school, she ran and was elected to the Aledo School District board where she became the first woman president of the school board.  She was also an active member of the First Baptist Church Aledo.  Once Ed sold his business, Rosie also retired so they could spend many years wintering in Arizona and traveling all over the world with friends and relatives.

Rosie was full of faith, loving admiration of family, and so willing to be there for anyone.  Her table was always open for lively discussions and great meals.  She went out of her way to fill her pantry full of snacks she knew people liked, even if she didn’t like them.  She loved to play games with her kids and grandchildren and was pretty competitive at them.  In her spare time, she loved daily devotionals, reading, watching Hallmark movies, and watching the Cubs.

Those left to cherish Rosemary’s memory include her children and spouses: daughter Vicki Reid, daughter Lori (Reid) Dobry & Jim Dobry, son Bruce Reid & Donna Reid, daughter in-law Gayle Reid & Scott Jenkins; grandchildren and spouses: Adam Reid, Jordan & Beth (Reid) Oswald, Mitchell Reid, Michael & Kali (Pewitt) Quinn, Nicholas & Shelby (Reid) Shepard, Connor Reid; step-grandchildren and spouses: Jordan & Nicole (Strimel) Johnson, Zach & Gianna Strimel, Jacob & Emmalee Jenkins, Conner Jenkins; great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Reid, Hannah Oswald; step-great-grandchildren: Jullian Quinn, Rory Quinn, Stella Strimel; sister: Carol (Wood) McCreight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Joseph Austin Reid (2011), her husband Ed (2015), sister Darlene (Wood) Stuart (2022), and grandson Austin Thomas Reid (2023).
