Scott (Scotty) Wayne Van Dyke, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Galesburg, Illinois. Born on March 17, 1947, in Muscatine, Iowa. Scotty’s life was a journey marked by laughter, song and service.
He was the cherished son of Albert and Evelyn (Koepping) Van Dyke, both of whom preceded him in death. Scotty was also welcomed into eternal rest by his sisters, brother and their spouses; Wilma Keller, Arlene & Dave Pech, Kathryn & Richard Kruse, Janet & Frank Stalkfleet and Ralph & Pat Van Dyke. Scotty is survived by his loving and beautiful sister, Marsha Wilson and respected and loving brother-in-law, Danny Keller.
A proud veteran, Scotty served in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and bravely completing two tours in Vietnam serving in telecommunications.
He graduated from Muscatine High School. Scotty worked hard in his life, but it was his personality that truly made an impact on those around him. He was known for his humor, a quick joke, and being the center of attention, traits that made him memorable to many and brought smiles to countless faces.
In his free time, Scotty was an avid pool player and enjoyed spending time fishing, cooking, and reading. He had a passion for crossword puzzles that kept his mind sharp. Music was also a significant part of his life; he loved to sing, often filling the air with melodies that brought smiles to those around him. His ornery and grumpy demeanor were all part of his charm and those who knew him well understood that.
Scotty leaves behind a family that includes his two daughters and their partners, Kelly Van Dyke Teel & Joseph Williamson and Corrine Van Dyke & Allan Wilson; grandchildren: Tiana Van Dyke, Micaela Booth, Katie VanDyke, Alexander Miller, Kyra Miller, Samarra Williamson, Mileigh Williamson and Rylan Williamson, along with seven great-grandchildren.
Scotty will be remembered for his grumpy charm, ornery wit, jokes and nostalgic singing. He definitely made an impression on all who knew him, and his memory will undoubtedly continue to remain in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace Scotty, you will be dearly missed.
Memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, Illinois. Private Family burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home. A celebration of life will be announced later.
