Vickie L. Hall, 70 of Coal Valley, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. To honor both her and her husband, Jim, a celebration of both of their lives will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is one hour prior to services, beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niabo Zoo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
Vickie Lea was born on June 4, 1956, in Muscatine, Iowa to Melvin Henry & Beverly (Muhlenburg) Short. She was a 1974 graduate of Westmer High School. Vickie married James Hall on June 15, 1974, in Aledo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2019.
Vickie loved to work on crafts, especially with flowers, turning it into a career with Floral Connection in Milan where she worked for many years. In earlier years she enjoyed gardening and doing crafts which included crocheting, cross-stitching and sewing. Her nieces and nephews were gifted many Halloween costumes over the years. She also worked as a seamstress in earlier years. Vickie enjoyed her trips to visit her sister and family in Arizona where she enjoyed rock hunting for her gardens back home. Jim and Vickie enjoyed fishing together. In later years her home was filled with plants and books. She was always reading a new crime and mystery novel. She loved her pets, especially her cats.
Vickie is survived by her mother, Beverly Short; siblings and spouses: Randy & Laura Short; Cindy & Dennis Short -Nelson; brother-in-law, Jeffrey DeBacker; nieces & nephews: Amanda & Jeremy Birch, Nathan & Cindy DeBacker, Kegan DeBacker, Abby Short, Randi Short, Roxanne & Austin McFarland, and many great nieces and nephews. Vickie was preceded in death by her father; sister, Deborah K. DeBacker; and nephew, Andrew DeBacker.
