Wallace L. Green, 83 of New Boston, died Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5th from 2 to 5 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Gravesides services with Military Honors will be held on Monday, October 6th at 11:00 AM at Mannon Cemetery, Mannon, Illinois. A time of fellowship and Celebration of Wally’s life will be held at his home immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mannon Cemetery or to the Ken Cox Agriculture Scholarship Fund.

Wallace LeRoy Green was born on September 7, 1942, in Moline, Illinois to Otis LeRoy & Ella Catherine (Jebb) Green. He was a 1960 graduate of Joy High School. Wally served in the United Sates Army during the Vietnam Era. He was previously married to Laverne Setgast. Wally and Mary Ann Bresson were united in marriage on March 13, 1999.

Wally was a man dedicated to the land as a grain and livestock farmer with his brothers in Eliza Township as Agri-Tech Farms and served on many farming organizations including, National Farmers Organization where he served as Vice President for the state of Illinois and was a lifetime member. Their farm grew white popcorn and seed corn for Cargil and Mycogen Seed Companies. He was also a strong advocate for Mercer County, serving on the Mercer County Board for 8 years, including 6 years as Chairman. Wally enjoyed his trips to Washington DC where he could lobby for funding for Mercer County. He was also a founding member of the Mercer County Development Board, served on the Bi State Planning Regional Commission, the Mercer County YMCA Board, the Mercer County Hospital Board and was a Trustee for the New Boston-Eliza Fire District. Wally also sold real estate for many years with Mel Foster.

In his spare time Wally enjoyed family genealogy and spent 30 years tracing his family back to 1085. His 9th great-grandfather was a Mohican Indian Chief, and he also could trace his linage back to a King and Queen. In his spare time Wally enjoyed fishing, traveling with Mary Ann for her job. From the age of twelve, Wally loved the St. Louis Cardinals and could be found cheering on the Fighting Illini. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and baseball around Mercer County. Was an avid snow skier and enjoyed his home on the river where he could watch the boats and wildlife. He cherished his special canine companion, Maisy.

Wally is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son and daughter-in-law, Royce & Julie Green; brothers and sister-in-law, Forrest Green and Gary & Jackie Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Green in 1983; brother, Kenneth Green in 1995 and sister, Sharon Green in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a fiancé, Donna Leibold.
