Wilma "Billie" Kernan

Wilma “Billie” Kernan, 90, of Aledo died Monday, February 1, 2021 at Mercer Manor, Aledo. Memorial services will be held on May 7, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be left at speerfuneralhome.com.

Wilma Jane was born on December 27, 1930 in Alexis, Illinois to George & Hazel (Bellinger) Sperry. She married James A. Kernan on August 1, 1947 in Aledo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2002.

Billie was a dedicated homemaker, who always had a card game going for anyone who stopped or a pot of chicken and noodles and a garden harvest to share. She was a devoted member of the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church and a helping hand to many. Billie and Jim enjoyed spending their winters in Texas.

Billie is survived by her children and spouses: James & Marti Kernan of Moline; Richard & Linda Kernan of Mason, MI; Mike (Doni) Kernan of Geneseo; Terry Kernan of Albany, IL and Robin Days of Beardstown, IL; son-in-law, Jerry Hamilton of Geneseo, IL; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Donna Martin of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Richard Chandler Boggs; husband; sisters, Helen McKenney and Jean Miller; brother, Frank “Buzz” Sperry; a daughter, Patty Hamilton; 4 grandchildren; and a special friend, Don Hampton.

The family would like to thank special friends, Barb Robinson, Mary Vipond and Beth Springer for their friendship and help over the years.
